12:00pm-3:30pm EST
Level: Beginner
Required: Hands only, one or more favorite recipes
Learn how to format, print, and bind a zine using our analogue Riso RZ 390ui printer! Guided by book artist and expert printmaker, Dustin Brinkman, you'll dive into the creative possibilities of analogue risograph printing, book layouts, and binding techniques to construct a collective cookbook zine from collages, cut-outs, and drawings. This hands-on experience is perfect for anyone looking to get to know the risograph and basic bookmaking skills while enjoying the collaborative process.
Each participant is asked to bring a recipe they would like to contribute to the zine. We will design all of the zine elements during the workshop session, so no need to bring anything other than your recipe.
Everyone will take home their own bound copy :]
*This course has no prerequisite. No prior experience necessary!
*CPAC members who want to use the Riso by themselves are required to take the Introduction to Risograph workshop first before doing so. The Intro course covers more machine maintenance and troubleshooting that will be necessary for diy use.
A zine (/ziːn/ ⓘ ZEEN; short for magazine or fanzine) is a small-circulation self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images, usually reproduced via a copy machine. - Wikipedia
Zines can be powerful vehicles for sharing and distributing niche, personal, or alternative views into subcultures, fandom, artwork, poetry, activism, skill-sharing, community-building, and more. Self-publishing is an expanding practice of printing small editions of zines and other printed ephemera. The Risograph is an affordable, eco-friendly, outdated high-speed duplicator (initially invented for low-cost, high-quantity printing in offices, schools, and churches) that allows artists to play with its unique print qualities and to print high volumes at a low cost.
